EDC initiates business matchmaking session during Arab Health 2009

Release date: 27th January 2009
The Dubai Export Development Corporation (EDC), a Dubai Government body charged with promoting exports from the Emirate, has explored export opportunities in the booming Healthcare industry in South Asia for Health-related companies in Dubai and the UAE.

EDC organised an interactive business networking forum for Dubai and the UAE Healthcare companies on the sidelines of the Arab Health 2009. Attended by various buyers from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the forum entitled ‘Win Business in South Asia’ provided UAE companies regional market insights and awareness about expanding business in South Asia.

“According to the Technopak Advisors report ‘India Healthcare Trends 2008’, the US$35 billion worth Healthcare industry in India is expected to reach over US$75 billion by 2012 and US$150 billion by 2017. With this current boom of the Healthcare industry in this region, companies in Dubai and the UAE are well placed to develop their businesses in the South Asian markets,” said Engineer Saed Al Awadi, Chief Executive Office, EDC.

“We in EDC are always looking for opportunities for Dubai-based firms to expand their reach outside the country. This forum will assist interested companies in the Emirates to export Health-related products and services to South Asian markets,” he added.

The business matchmaking forum was attended by EDC representatives from India and has discussed various export opportunities across the region and the export credit insurance available for Dubai exporters. Participants also had the opportunity to network with visiting buyers from South Asia interested in sourcing products from Dubai. South Asian companies present during the forum are distributors of medical, surgical, radiology and diagnostics equipment.

EDC has also participated at the Arab Health 2009 from 26-29 January at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
