International Trade Center (ITC) and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Classification
There are millions of trade transactions occurring each year. These transactions are classified under approximately 7,000 different products. Every item that is exported is assigned a unique HS–code to identify it The Harmonized System Codes (HS-Code) is a system of progressively more specific identifiers for a commodity, mainly set to track international trades and to identify associated custom tariffs. Each commodity will have an up to 6-digits internationally unique HS Code which is identified by the International Trade Center. The ITC leaves the digits after the first 6-digits to the countries to identify its products depending on their needs and requirements. The respectful HS Codes of traded items are required for customs documents and clarifications. It is the Code of the importing country that must be included in those documents. Thus, exporters are expected to approach the customs agency at the destination of their exported items in order to identify the trade’s HS Codes required. The HS Code list which the EDC is providing is the 2007 copy of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) classifications.
